Potassium is a key nutrient during the fruit enlargement stage in pear trees, directly linked to increased fruit size, firmness, and overall quality. At Agricotec®, we present two of the best options for its application via fertigation in pears.

This nutrient promotes sugar accumulation, fruit sizing, improved firmness, and extended postharvest life. It also enhances stomatal regulation, which increases water use efficiency and improves the crop’s tolerance to water stress conditions.

The action of potassium is directly related to fruit quality, as it boosts soluble solids concentration and enhances the organoleptic characteristics of the pear.

In this context, Agricotec® introduces two liquid potassium-based solutions: Kalifluid® Plus, a potassium carbonate solution, and Potazufre®, a potassium thiosulfate solution. Both fertilizers are effective tools for meeting the potassium demands during the critical fruit development period. Below, we present the advantages of each product:

Potazufre®

Potazufre® is a potassium and sulfur fertilizer derived from a potassium thiosulfate solution. Its application offers the advantage of providing a constant and balanced potassium supply, suitable for repeated applications throughout the entire fruit sizing process.

Its liquid formulation allows easy integration into fertigation programs, enabling continuous and sustained crop nutrition. Additionally, it contributes sulfur in the form of thiosulfate, an element involved in the synthesis of essential sulfur-containing compounds and in the overall metabolism of the plant.

This potassium source is especially beneficial in long-term nutrient management strategies, as its chemical profile supports efficient potassium nutrition without interfering with other elements present in the soil solution.

In pears, it is recommended to apply 60 to 90 kg/ha of Potazufre®, via fertigation, divided into 2 to 3 applications depending on crop needs, from bud break to the beginning of ripening or color change.

These recommendations are indicative and should be adjusted based on specialized technical criteria. For optimal management, consult an agronomic advisor or contact our technical department.

Kalifluid® Plus

Kalifluid® Plus is a high-grade NK (3-32) fertilizer derived from a potassium carbonate solution. This fertilizer is characterized by its high concentration of soluble, readily available potassium.

This feature makes it an excellent choice for advanced stages of fruit enlargement, when immediate response in terms of fruit size and sugar content is required.

Its action is particularly effective in the weeks leading up to harvest, supporting efficient cell expansion and enhancing the final quality of the fruit.

Additionally, its composition facilitates the absorption of other nutrients such as calcium, further improving fruit firmness and postharvest preservation.

In pears, it is recommended to apply 80 to 100 kg/ha of Kalifluid® Plus, via fertigation, divided into 3 to 4 applications before the onset of ripening.

These recommendations are indicative and should be adjusted based on specialized technical criteria. For optimal management, consult an agronomic advisor or contact our technical department.

The complementary use of both fertilizers in pears applying Potazufre® during the active sizing phase and Kalifluid® Plus in the final stage of fruit development—allows for maximum potassium uptake efficiency, enhanced fruit quality, and optimized crop performance under controlled fertigation conditions.

In pears, it is recommended to apply 30 to 40 kg/ha of Potazufre® via fertigation, split into 2 to 3 irrigations starting from bud break, followed by 30 to 60 kg/ha of Kalifluid® Plus applied in two rounds before the beginning of ripening.

These recommendations are indicative and should be adjusted based on specialized technical criteria. For optimal management, consult an agronomic advisor or contact our technical department.

This integrated approach aligns with the principles of balanced, stage-specific crop nutrition tailored to the phenological development of pear trees. Furthermore, both Kalifluid® Plus and Potazufre® are packaged in transparent drums and IBCs to ensure product quality, visibly free of precipitates that could reduce fertilizer effectiveness.

To maximize the efficiency of the fertilization program, it is essential to conduct soil and leaf tissue analyses and adjust application rates according to the crop’s needs. Proper irrigation management ensures optimal nutrient absorption. In addition, foliar applications should be performed during the cooler hours of the day to maximize uptake and minimize evaporative losses.
