Foliar fertilization in olive trees: Oil content, fruit size, and auality
<
Foliar nutrition in olive trees is an effective strategy to enhance fruit size and oil content, ultimately improving overall harvest yield.
In olive cultivation, the fruit fattening and ripening phase is crucial in determining both the quality and final productivity of the crop, particularly in terms of oil yield.
To ensure an efficient potassium supply and activate metabolic processes that favor greater oil accumulation, the combined foliar application of Potenfol® K and Kalifol® is highly recommended.

This combination provides highly available potassium along with bioactive amino acids, boosting the olive tree’s metabolic efficiency and enhancing the mobilization of sugars and lipids toward the fruit.

Potenfol® K
Potenfol® K is a liquid amino acid solution enriched with potassium for foliar application.
Its application stimulates the tree’s enzymatic activity, activates sugar synthesis, and improves sugar translocation to the fruit, resulting in a higher accumulation of fatty compounds.
It also strengthens the olive tree’s tolerance to stress conditions such as high temperatures, drought, or saline soils, maintaining photosynthetic activity even under adverse conditions.
By improving potassium absorption, it acts as a catalyst in the lipogenesis process during the fruit-filling stage.

Potenfol® K is a fertilizer approved for use in organic crop production according to EC Regulation 834/2007 and in compliance with UNE 142500 standards. |
Kalifol®
Kalifol® is a clean, concentrated potassium source, low in nitrogen and free from chlorides, making it ideal for the final stages of the olive production cycle.
Its use allows a rapid and effective potassium supply, stimulating lipid formation and improving the final oil quality.
Its alkalinizing effect enhances foliar absorption and ensures excellent compatibility with most other foliar treatments.
Kalifol® helps to produce more balanced fruit with improved size, more uniform ripening, and optimized oil yield.

The suggested protocol consists of two to three foliar applications during the fruit-filling phase. The first application should be made at the beginning of pit hardening. The second application is recommended 15 to 20 days later, during the peak activity of oil accumulation. A third application can be made at the onset of color change (veraison) if conditions demand it or if a final boost is desired. Suggested dosage is between 2.5 and 3 liters per hectare for Potenfol® K Suggested dosage is between 2.5 and 3 liters per hectare for Kalifol®, applied together in foliar spray with good coverage.
These indications are general and should be adjusted based on specialized technical criteria. For optimal crop management, consult an agronomic advisor or contact our technical department.
This foliar strategy is designed to significantly increase oil yield per hectare, improve the fruit-to-oil ratio, promote more uniform fruit ripening, and ensure a more balanced physiological response of the olive tree during critical stages. It supports a more efficient, productive, and profitable crop.
Potenfol® K and Kalifol® form a highly effective technical solution to meet the quality and yield targets of modern olive production.
To maximize the efficiency of the fertilization program, it is essential to carry out soil and leaf tissue analyses and adjust application rates based on crop requirements. Proper irrigation management will ensure optimal nutrient uptake. It is also recommended to apply foliar sprays during the cooler hours of the day to increase efficacy and minimize evaporation losses.
