Processing tomatoes require fertile and efficient soils to achieve high yields and quality in line with market demands. The use of Protogallin® as a basal fertilizer improves crop performance and optimizes profitability from the very start of the season.

In processing tomato production, profitability depends not only on the total yield, but also on the quality of the fruit delivered to the factory. Brix level and fruit colour are two key factors influencing the final price, both of which are closely linked to soil condition and the efficiency of the fertilization strategy from the earliest growth stages.

Soils with low organic matter content show reduced biological activity, poorer structure and a limited ability to make efficient use of applied fertilizers. In contrast, soils enriched with organic matter are more stable, more efficient and more profitable, as they promote better root development and a more balanced uptake of water and nutrients. In this context, basal fertilization becomes a key tool for improving processing tomato productivity.

Protogallin® as a production booster

Protogallin® is a natural organic NPK fertilizer, produced from cage-free poultry manure and designed for use as a basal fertilizer. Its application improves soil fertility and creates a favourable environment for the crop, preparing the soil so that processing tomatoes can express their full productive potential from the outset.

Strategy for using Protogallin® in processing tomatoes

When applied prior to mineral fertilization, Protogallin® allows fertilizers used during the crop cycle to be utilized more efficiently, optimizing fertilization investment and improving profitability without the need to increase application rates.

Improving soil structure and root activity promotes more balanced nutrition and better water management, resulting in more concentrated and more uniform fruit.

This balance helps to improve Brix levels and fruit colour, two key parameters for industrial yield and the final value of the product at the processing plant.

In conventional agriculture, Protogallin® is recommended as a basal fertilizer in a single application before transplanting, always prior to mineral fertilization. The indicative rate ranges between 1,500 and 3,000 k/ha, adjusted according to soil type, fertility level and production objectives.

In organic agriculture, Protogallin® can also be applied as a basal fertilizer in a single application before transplanting. In this case, the indicative rate ranges between 2,000 and 4,000 k/ha, aiming to ensure a sustained improvement in soil fertility throughout the crop cycle.

These recommendations are indicative and should be adjusted using specialized technical criteria. For a personalized recommendation, please consult an agronomic advisor or contact our technical department.
